May 17, 2008
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Lamar men's golf team shot a final round 311 and tied for 16th at 911, missing out on advancing to the NCAA Championship by ten strokes. The Cardinals never seemed to get things going in Saturday's final round, as they combined for just two birdies - both coming from Leroux Ferriera and his team-low 73. He tied for 65th with a 54-hole total of 229 as he shaved strokes off his previous day's score each round (79-77-73). Casey Clendenon had the lowest 3-day total at 226. He shot an 80 and finished the regional in a tie for 41st. Justin Harding also tied for 65th with Ferrierafter his final-round 80. Hughes Joannes and Russell Helson tied for 102nd with 234 totals. Joannes had a 78 and Helson had the Cardinals' third 80 of the day. Lamar finished its season with two tournament titles - The Gopher Invitational and the Southland Conference Championship - and advanced to the NCAA Regional for the eighth-consecutive year and ninth overall.
