Lamar Distance Runners Set School Records at Stanford Invitational
April 7, 2008
PALO ALTO, Calif. - - Lamar distance runners Clerc Koenck, Francis Kasagule and Samuel Kosgei traveled west for the weekend where they took part in the Stanford Invitational, each turning in a school record setting performance. Kosgei ran to a third place finish in the 10,000 meter run in a time of 29:54.15. His performance broke the 23-year old record of Rafael Colmenares who ran 30:00.09 in 1985. Kosgei's third place finish was the best individual finish for any of the three runners at the meet. Koenck ran to a ninth place finish in the women's 1,500 meter run in a regional qualifying time of 4:23.11 which was .76 of a second faster than her previous school record. Her previous best was a 4:23.87 performance turned in at the prelims of the Midwest Regional Championship on May 5, 2007 in Des Moines, Iowa. Kasagule also got in on the record setting mix as he broke his own school record in the 5,000 meter run with a regional qualifying, 14:01.94 performance, which put him in 16th place. His previous-best was 14:10.71 which he ran at Baylor on April 21, 2007. Kasagule also turned in a 20th place finish in the 1,500 meter run with a 3:49.15 performance. Kosgei, Koenck and Kasagule will rejoin the rest of the Cardinals track team on Saturday when they head to the Northwestern Invitational in Natchitoches, La.
