LU Sprinters Run Strong at Texas Relays

April 7, 2008

AUSTIN, Texas - A handful of Lamar University sprinters took to the track at the 81st running of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium over the weekend where they turned several season-best performances.

The Men's relay teams made it to the finals in the 4x200 meter relay and the sprint medley relay, notching a ninth place finish in the sprint medley and an 11th place finish in the 4x200. The Cards turned in a 3:28.24 performance in the sprint medley and a 1:28.13 performance in the 4x200. The men' 4x400 relay team continued their gradual improvement as the season is playing out, positing a season-best time of 3:15.33.

In the women's relays the Lady Cardinals posted times of 3:51.38 in the 4x400 and 51.61 in the 4x100. The 4x100 time ranks as the third-best time of the season for LU, while the 4x400 performance was their second-best.

Individually Michael Gauthier and Sahara Abraham both ran their best 100 meter dashes of the season while Jessika Johnson and Megan Bibbs posted their season-best times in the 100 meter hurdles. Gauthier sprinted to a 10.82 second finish in the 100, while Abraham crossed the finish line in 12.80 seconds. Johnson edged her previous season-best of 14.33, which she ran at the Texas Invitational, with a 14.29 second performance, while Bibbs ran to a 15.26 finish. Alexandra Mayfield ran her second-best 400 meter hurdle time of the year, posting a time of 1:04.27.

The Cardinals track team will be back on the track on Saturday when they head to the Northwestern Invitational in Natchitoches, La.
