Zeigler, Nilsson Named Academic All-Southland Conference

FRISCO, Texas - Lamar women's golfers Hillary Zeigler and Therese Nilsson were both named to the Capital One Academic All-Southland Conference team as released by the league office on Tuesday.

Zeigler finished the season second on the team with a 76.73 stroke average over 20 rounds. The Livingston, Texas native finished in fourth place at the SLC Championship and six top-10 finishes. She was also named to the first team in 2005-06, with second team plaudits as a sophomore and junior before concluding her standout career on the first team this season. She carried a 3.30 grade points average in communications.

A rising senior from Vellinge, Sweden, Nilsson posted a a 76.25 scoring average and five top-10 finishes, including a pair of individual titles at the Islander Spring Classic and the Lamar/Sam Houston State Spring Invitational. She has a 3.21 GPA in exercise science. She was named the SLC Freshman of the Year in 2005-06, Player of the Year in 2006-07 and to the All-SLC First Team last month. She becomes just the fourth player in league history to earn three first team accolades, joining Raman Saran of Sam Houston State, Lisa Westman of McNeese State and former Lady Cardinal Casey Cain.

Jennifer Heinz of Sam Houston State was selected the women's golf Student-Athlete of the Year, with Rebecca Sorenson of Central Arkansas and Christine Brijalba of Texas State completing the five-member squad.
