Justin Gibert announced the signing of Ashley Fey.

Lamar Volleyball Inks Ashley Fey

Nov. 27, 2007

BEAUMONT - Ashley Fey of Crete High School in Crete, Nebraska has signed national letter-of-intent to continue her education and play volleyball at Lamar University, announced head Coach Justin Gibert.

Fey, a 6-0 middle blocker, was named second team all conference and earned all-state honorable mention as a senior at Crete High. She was also successful in the classroom, earning honor roll and academic all state.

In addition to playing at Crete, Fey played for the Nebraska Volleyball Academy. The NVA won the 2007 Junior Olympic championships. She is also a standout on the track, where she earned state runner up honors in the 100 meter hurdles and seventh place in the high jump.

Gibert said the signing of Fey is very important in filling the holes left at middle blocker with the departure of seniors Molli Abel and Courtney Mitchell.

"I think she is one of the best middle recruits in the Southland Conference," Gibert said. "She's a great athlete and we expect her to compete for playing time right away with the losses we have in the middle. Replacing a pair of seniors, not to mention the conference player of the year will be tough, but Ashley is the type of player we need to bring in to continue winning championships."
